Recycle as a New Face of Postmodernism
People in 2014 tend to use recycle items, whether it is bag, accessory, or clothes. As we know, recycle items is less expensive and it also environmental friendly. However, by doing recycle items from unused could be used again. It means that, it already lost the originality of the items. And this is a rejection of modernism and supporting postmodernism. Why it could classify as rejecting modernism and supporting post modernism? There are some point which is originality, sustainability, and creating through unused.
The recycle of items from unused into useful material is something new. The purposed of recycling is mostly to make other useless material to be able to used again for other purposed. As an example is recycling paper bag into book, or recycling unused newspaper into book. However, as mentioned before, the term of recycling is making new through other unused material. It support the postmodernism way of thinking and like rejecting modernism. Why it could be categorized as a postmodernism supporter? First is the items that used to make it, it used the used items. So the product will lose the originality of itself, which mean postmodernism. One of the modernism characteristic is originality, made from exact items. If used material is being used to make new things, it means that it lost its originality. And because of that, recycle is supporting post modernism.
The second one is creating through unused. As we can see everything has been build with the specific materials, chairs from wood, bag from cloth, clothes from cloth. Anything has its specific material, but in recycle, we can make bag from recycle plastic, we can make clothes from food plastic. Many things have lost its basic construction. And this is one of the post modernism characteristic. We could make anything from anything, not really need to be only using iron, wood, or something else as the base of the product. The recycle becomes the postmodernism characteristic. As explained before, originality of items is lost during post modernism and in modernism, there is certain thing or rules should be followed in order to make things as they are.
In modernism, the way of making something should be in order, it should be created through some specific steps. However, not in post modernism, there is no specific or certain rules, as long as it is the same result, any ways could be used to make it. Even using different materials, as I mentioned. Recycle is the way of making new things. And it is now categorized as one of post modernism characteristic, because first, it used other materials to make new things and not as certain material as the original one. Second, the originality of the things has been vanished as the recycle process. Third, the usage of the new items might be different from the base material should be. As the result, we nw categorized recycle as one of post modernism product.
