Rejection of Modernism
Art developed day by day, century by century, and now it is in the beginning of early 21st century. In this century art is mostly about post modernism which more into different looks of a normal item. This different of art view is about rejection of old tradition which is modernism. The rejection of art happen because artist or designer want to make something new which is different from what already exist. No wonder in the post modernism, there are lots of interesting items in term of form, shape, purposed, and function. However in post modernism, there is no such a rule to be followed while in the modernism there is certain rule of how things work.
In modernism, everything based on form, follow, and function. Every items own their purposed to be created and each of them have their own function according to their purposed and maker. Form mean every items created by artist and designer have a shape, whether circle, square, or et cetera. The second one is follow and function. Everything around us is created by human and they have specific function and what is it about. For instance the desk, it has a form in square but sometimes in other shape, it also has function to make people easier to write or put stuff on it. There is no fun attached to regular items in modernism. meanwhile in post modernism, there is a new option which is fun. Fun in this term mean something could be made attractive and different by adding some new attributes, such as not regular shape. If people see a desk in square normally, designer and artist might make the desk into other shape such as love, ball, or just a random shape which is really look weird and people might think it not really work functionally. However that is the point of post modernism. adding fun to the design and make everything mess up, but never leave the other option, form, follow, function, and fun.
Post modernism is also about challenging the reality. They are always try to make something different from the modernism. They reject everything in modernism. post modernism concept is if there is no fun there is no good design. The capability of designing unusual thing is also being supported by some artist during post modernism. as an example, Pablo Picasso is the first one who invented a not realistic portrait. If the artist before Pablo Picasso made such as beautiful painting over portrait and realism, Pablo Picasso more into self imagination which he doesn’t use any rules and straight concept to make a good painting. His painting is not about looking the same like the real thing. He used his freedom and imagination to make something not usual but could be accepted by other people. So he made cubism. A new style which is rejecting the realism. There is no actual shape, only a block shape and not common shape. There is no good looking face, but more into square and random shape face.
In post modernism, everything is about rejection of reality and realism. People could freely choose and make their own design and arts. There is no rule designer should follow directly. The use of imagination and freedom is one of the main aspect post modernism used. There is fun on doing arts, there is fun on designing. There is no need to be as regular as the old fashioned arts. Pablo Picasso is the good example of post modernism, he could invent arts which are not regular in people eyes, but his art is famous as Da Vinci arts! There is form, follow, function, plus fun in post modernism. Fun will created everything from regular into not regular because fun means adding something attractive which could attract peoples eye in only a glance.
