Background
In the world of development, our world is approaching the digitize era. Everything is digitizing and most of our tool and equipment are using “smart” label as their market. Last year, I was helping my friend from Computer Science Department to build a housing design for his smart house project. He creates a system that use Intel Arduino to control the light in the house. He can adjust the lights, turn it on off from distance with his phone, and controlling the door and window to prevent from robbery. It was interesting to watch and I was thinking what if technology combined with art? In the early day of the semester, I asked my advisor about some inputs for my projects, he suggest to step up further to create something 3D and have volume. Therefore, I ran to this project idea. Creating the Light Box Art that combine technology and art. This technique was first developed by Hari and Deepti from India. They started the project from 5 years ago and stopped in the middle of 2015 for unknown reason. I was so inspired with their works since 2013 and I was thinking to create the product by myself. But, due to lack of tools and equipment that time, I cannot finish the projects. However, this time I have all the tools and equipment to create it and was wondering to make this as an opportunity for me. There is no current market for this and I did some research for demands and interests. It is quite high, but not that high. Therefore, I am planning to create my own Light Box Art by using my own ideas and capability.
Costumer Segment
Our product is a home decoration, and with the number of people who wants to have their own house, the need of decorations will be increasing. The current generations are familiar with everything that is “smart”, therefore, we would like to focus on the young generations who seeks for smart decorations for their new house. Our main customer is the art collectors, new family, and people who seeks for art decorations. Aside from being a decoration, we would like to give the experiences of having limited edition items. Therefore, our other targets are middle economic level or higher consumer and art enthusiast.
Value Preposition
Sometimes people need arts in their rooms, but, most of the decorative art is a static and has only one meaning; for decorations. Therefore, our product is a smart decoration. with wireless connection, we can adjust the brightness of the light from anywhere via mobile apps. We would like the customer to be able to adjust the brightness as the pleased. We acknowledge that some lamp decorations are not able to do this and it is an issue for some people. Our product will offer the ability to adjust the brightness and change the color. Moreover, we value our product as artistic decorations. We would like to give the customer the art value of our product, not as merely a decoration, but also something to be admire about.
Channels
We will deliver our product to the customer by using local shipper such as JNE, Pos Indonesia, Tiki, Gojek, Grab, and other delivery product. We are choosing them as our channels because they are the most frequently used by Indonesian. Not to mention that they also have fair price for good process. Another channels we would like to open is the online retailer shops such as Tokopedia and BukaLapak. We are currently using these two because they are one of their first kind. They work as the face of the online shops. I have done research about most frequently used and most of the answer choose Tokopedia and BukaLapak. However, there still plenty of time, we might open our channels broader. We also would like to create our main websites using Wix Site. It is a brand new web server that provides a website for people. Their designs are attractive and easy to understand. We choose wixsite because it is currently growing fast and it has lots of relations with many big brands. Last month, they just brought the property for DeviantArt, one of the biggest site that provides place for artist to post their works without cost.
Customer Relationship
- Building Network : We will build a network based on hobbyist and collector, but everyone who eager to join are very welcomed. When we build a network, we will get to know our customer better. When we know our customer better, we can get more information regarding current trend and preferable design in the market.
- Link to our business : Recommend for subscription to our product mail and having a social network so customer can see the latest work. It is important to keep in touch with faraway customer. Therefore, by providing an online networking is another must for any business. We will create our social media account in Instagram, Facebook, and DeviantArt. These three is most frequently used to search for art related stuff.
- Reward : Giving a bonus or rewards to the loyal customer is important. The loyal customer is our asset, a free marketer. The rewards can be free service, free stuff, and other things. We would like to have a system like Patreon. Patreon let people to support the artist to create their works by giving funds regularly. In the process, the Artists should provide a payment to the funder by giving free stuff, for instance, initial design, design process, and first result for the projects.
Revenue Streams
Our own Online Shop, together with the online retailer shops. Most of our revenue will comes from the retailer shops and our own shops. The other streams come from the Patreon. Patreon will be our back up money when we start a new project.
Key Resources
- Workplace : Having convenient place to work is important, to avoid stress and customer can visit to see the making process. A workplace or a workshop is important resources as well as investment and asset. If we don’t have the proper workplace, we wont be able to work properly. In order to maintain the quality, it is very important to have a good place to work.
- Materials : We will provide the best material if possible. The material for the paper is watercolor paper which is 200gsm and it is sturdy enough to hold few pressures. The next is LED strips. LED is very useful light, it uses low electricity and has bright light and can change its colors. We also will provide the sturdy wooden frame that won’t easily detached.
- Partners : Having someone who possibly can manage the marketing and delivering. But in the early step, we probably will work alone. It is important to have someone who is expert on marketing and managing customer. But in the current phase, we will probably cannot hire the people, yet.
Key Activities
Creating goods : We create a good for people. So people can use our product.
Art Enthusiast : We create arts and arts should be appreciated in any mediums. Therefore, we are eager to show the world that art evolves and now can be interesting.
Light decorators : We create a decoration, a lamp. But this is not a normal lamp. A lamp that has the function as decorations and art. The lamp also will be a “smart” lamp that allows the user to adjust its brightness as they need.
Key Partners
- Canson : Provides good quality art paper. Canson company has been known as their good quality paper. Their paper is very comfortable to use and thick. They have wide variety of paper and we are using the 200gsm watercolor paper. The reason is because this paper is not too shady and it is not absorbing neither reflecting light too much.
- Carpenter : Provides a good quality wooden frame. It is important to have sturdy frame. A sturdy wooden frame is very useful to keep our product safe from any impacts.
- A marketer : it is important to have somebody who willing to help market our product.
- Intel : We are using Arduino to help adjusting light easier from anywhere. Arduino is simple yet very powerful devices. Last year, we help our friend to build a light housing using Arduino and the result is astonishing. We would like to implement Arduino to help us adjusting the light brightness by using our phone from anywhere.
Cost Structures
The costliest from this product is the material used. Everything is handmade and thematerial is the only issue. we provide the best material, so it is a bit costly. The amount of price from all the materials is calculated as this:
4 A2 Watercolor Paper : Rp40,000.00
1 A2 Polyfoam : Rp30,000.00
A wooden Frame : Rp50,000.00
1m LED Strip : Rp70,000.00
Others : Rp30,000.00
So, the total production cost for one product is estimated RP220,000.00. The price might be different overtime because the adjustment for inflation and other economic stuffs.
