Documenter Review and Respond
The latest movie watch is about documenter of a photographer. The movie is old; it is around 14 years old of movie. Even though the movie is old enough, the meaning and the massage of the movie is not old enough to be learned! After watching the movie, I got plenty of messages, new narratives, and also lots of experiences even though only from watching a documentary.
From the message, I got lots of massage in this documentary. First is about giving audience a perspective view from a photographer eyes. How is photographer doing the jobs and how hard they tried to make a good photo shoot even they need to risk their life. Moreover, the message from this documentary is taking a moment of someone in really grief and great lost. Having a stone heart during the shoot is important, even though the object is crying out loud because of lost, even though the client in great danger, we have to not do anything, photographer should capture the best of their subject moments and sometimes it is very sad to not doing anything to help and just standing taking pictures! The other message is we have to know our client first, we have to know our subject, the one who will we capture their photo. Photographer should make an agreement first with them, whether they could use the photo and allowed to capture their photo or not. Without a license, it is the same as illegally cutting the tree.
From the narrative, I learn about documentary video should be like this. Giving a really perspective of the one who we documenter or what we documenter. Even though there is no narrator speaking a lot in this documenter like the common documenter today, the story is flowing and each plot has its narrative spoken in action. The actions from most of the part described the video and as the replacement for the narrator. The documenter setting is more likely mixing both present and past view. They present both how the photo taken and the present gallery of the photo. It just like giving a great reason because most of the now documenter is about explaining the past only, explaining the process only.
From the experience itself, I could get new experience through this documenter. I was thinking the job of photographer will be fun, taking picture of animals like in national geographic channel, but this documentary give a huge flipping stone for me! The danger is real, the fear is real! But those should be defeated in order to capture the best image of the moment. Photography is harder than I think, t get the best picture, we have to involve a lot with the situation, to get the best shoot we have to feel the feel of the subject too. Being a photographer is a tough job and it is not easy to be a photographer.
The documenter explains a lot of things and from those things I learn many new things I have not experience yet. For instance the way of photographer survive on the job, how they could capture the best image, and how the photographer should be in the most terrible situation; there plenty of risk and danger photographers should encounter in order to take the best shoot. Capturing image is not easy and after the image captured, there will be plenty of them but only a few will be chosen as the best for the display! Photography is hard!
