Today class was about introduction to Maya, but we were focusing on the smallest part of a picture; pixel.  We were having discussion regarding what is pixel, resolution, and more into basic parts of the shade.

Pixel is referring to one of the element within a picture. All of the pictures are made from pixels, including photographed and printed pictures. In other word pixel can be stated as the smallest construction of a picture, the smallest component. Pixels are shape in square and on the square they will store or record the lights component, which are red, blue, and green light. The more the pixels, the better resolution it will have. However, it only works if the number of pixel square increased. If we only storing numbers of specific light on one pixel square, it will change nothing, resolution of an image are depending on how many the pixel they have.

Resolution could be mentioned as the group of pixels in the image. More general, we know that some computers are having the resolution of 1280×1024 pixels on the screen, or an image resolution is 780×450. Thus mean that the screen resolution contains 1280 pixels on the horizontal area and 1024 pixels on the vertical area. The more the pixels within the area, the better resolution it will.

Some people are confused on how pixel is enough to make a good quality picture? If camera caught the moment, it should have at least minimum pixels to obtain the average quality of picture.  Ideally, we will need 240 pixels per inch on each dimension. If we want to make a good picture within 8”x10” then we have to multiply the 8 with 240 and 10 with 240. We will get 1920 and 2400 then we have to times them. So 1920 times 2400 is 4,608,000. Since one mega pixel is 1,000,000 then we can say we will need 4,6 mega pixels to capture the image of 8”x10”, minimum number.

The lecture today gave me basic information on pixels and its component. This will be a good asset for the shading lecturing on the other week. It is important since it connected to this lecture. So in short, pixel is the smallest part of picture, resolution is the group of pixels, an to obtain the ideal of how enough is a pixel, just time the width and length by 240.
